DRIED SARGASSUM FOR ANIMAL FEED

Sargassum seaweed contains many biologically active substances that support animals in the growth and reproduction stage.

Currently, the use of Sargassum seaweed by coastal residents is still very simple, a very small amount is collected from the sea as food for humans and fresh food for animals. In addition, the other part is preliminarily processed (dried) and then sold raw, so the economic value is very attractive, most coastal residents do not know the value and potential of Sargassum seaweed as a raw material for animal feed very urgent subject.

The topic aims to build a database of ingredients and nutritional values of Sargassum seaweed powder; researched the method of drying Sargassum seaweed to serve the development of the production process of Sargassum seaweed powder for animal feed; research on suitable packaging materials to preserve Sargassum seaweed powder in service of building a process for preserving Sargassum seaweed powder; and evaluate the influence and ability to use Sargassum seaweed powder as feed for broilers, egg laying hens and piglets after weaning.

Some research results of the topic:

Sargassum seaweed powder has a low crude protein and crude lipid content (protein-4.31% and lipid - 0.11%) but the total mineral content is quite high at 29.31% with a calcium content of 2.01 %.

The content of serine amino acids and trace mineral elements iron, copper, manganese, zinc and iodine in Sargassum is very high.

Using the method of drying Sargassum with a hot steam of 650C has best preserved carotene and xanthophyll of seaweed. However, the results are much different from the drying method of the drying - drying mixture: these indicators are only 1.01% and 3.25% higher, respectively.

– Using Sargassum powder in chicken diets has a positive effect on growth and body weight of chickens at 14 weeks of age. In which, using 4% apricot powder in the diet for growing chickens brought the highest efficiency and had a positive effect on the color of the chicken skin, the yellow skin color increased from 9.56 to 19.11.

Using Sargassum seaweed powder in the diet of laying hens has positively affected the egg quality parameters, the yolk color increased from 9.47 to 11.33, the eggshell thickness increased from 0.346 mm to 0.349 mm.

The research team is expected to trial production of Sargassum seaweed powder as raw materials for the production of feed for livestock and poultry.
